Newark Advertiser reader letters: Good transport links are vital for our town
So the Planning Committee at Newark Town Council are not in favour of the proposed improvements of the A46 Newark Bypass.
Some things come to mind for those who voted against the improvements.
Do they accept there is unacceptable congestion?
Do they have a master plan to resolve the matter?
Do they accept a highly important part of benefiting the town or any town is good transport links?
I have a few suggestions for them:
Get off any political band wagon and really think about your town.
If they feel unable to be more supportive then I have a few ideas for them.
1. They apparently oversee public conveniences thus perhaps in view of the ever increasing time people will spend on the ring road they might like to build some for the number of drivers who would welcome comfort break facilities whilst in the log jam known as the A46
2. They have responsibilities for festivals so might plan ahead for the road being jammed for much longer and look towards automotive experiences centering on the varied vehicles in the jam
3. They continue with lack of support for transportation and realise one of the causes of congestion is the Castle Railway crossing. So get on with support for movement of people and goods and suggest planning to close railway links.
4. They accept the link available for transport provided by nature (River Trent) and support a relatively cheap remedy by providing a river bypass all round the town.
If they adopt the four above then they can install drawbridges all round the town.
Result NIMBYS (Newark TownCouncil) win.
With hope for the future. – D. GRANT, via email.
