Newark Castle Keepers Netball Club and Dukes Wood Oil Museum awarded grants by Newark and District Arts and Leisure Foundation

A netball club and museum were the latest to benefit from grants awarded by Newark and District Arts and Leisure Foundation.

At a recent meeting, the organisation agreed to give £500 towards new kit for the Newark Castle Keepers Netball Club.

The covid-19 lockdown has prevented their fundraising activities.

Another £250 was given to the Dukes Wood Oil Museum to assist in the design and print costs of a new brochure.

Dukes Wood, at Eakring, has been described as one of the best kept secrets of the second world war and made a vital contribution towards the war effort.

Launched in 1939 it was the first onshore oilfield in the UK. More than 600,000 tonnes of oil was pumped out between 1939 and 1965 using 170 nodding donkeys.
