How to get involved in Newark's Daisy Remembrance Campaign by the Children’s Bereavement Centre
A meadow of memories featuring dozens of daisies is to be created in the grounds of Newark Castle.
It is part of a major fundraising campaign for the Children’s Bereavement Centre in Newark.
People are being asked to buy an ornate metal daisy, which can be dedicated to the memory of a loved one, that will then be planted in an eye-catching display in the castle grounds.
It is hoped the public will be able to see the daisies from October 23 to 25, depending on social distancing guidelines.
The charity hopes the exhibit will allow children and their families to sit alongside the flowers for a moment of quiet reflection, remembrance and for some people the chance to say goodbye.
“Our Meadow Of Memories Daisy Remem-brance Campaign is a unique opportunity for children, young people and their families to come together to remember and celebrate the lives of those they love and have lost,” said Kate Baxter, the Children’s Bereavement Centre chief executive.
“By getting involved, you will not only be joining together with others to remember those special people who have died but you will also help to ensure that thousands of grieving families get the specialist support they need now and in the future by your local bereavement charity”
The daisy has been chosen because it can be interwoven and linked together to make a chain so is the perfect flower to bring people together in a shared grief and remembrance of lost loved ones.
The centre helps hundreds of young people, aged three to 18, who have experienced life-changing trauma due to the death or terminal illness of someone they love.
The centre’s fundraising manager, Rachel Wilson, said: “By taking part in the Daisy Remembrance Campaign you will be joining with others in remembrance as well as helping the Children’s Bereavement Centre.
“Anyone who has lost someone important in their lives is encouraged to get involved. You don’t need to have accessed support from the Children’s Bereavement Centre.”
How to get involved in daisy campaign
There are a number of ways to get involved in the Children Bereavement Centre’s Meadow Of Memories project.
People can buy an ornamental metal daisy for a suggested donation of £25.
The daisy head can be removed so people can place their own message inside the stem.
It will then be planted alongside others in Newark Castle’s grounds from October 23-25, subject to guidance.
People can visit the site at any time to see the meadow grow as others join the campaign and remember their loved ones.
At the end of the exhibition, you can collect your daisy to keep and enjoy in your own garden or give to someone as a gift.
Those who do not want to buy a daisy, can join an online meadow of memories.
For a suggested amount of £6 people can dedicate a daisy in the virtual Meadow of Memories on the Children’s Bereavement Centre website.
