Newark-based independent health food shop marks 30 years in business
An independent Newark health food shop celebrates its 30 year anniversary next month.
Kirkgate Health Foods, Newark, is a family-run business that has been running since June 29, 1992, specialising in healthy organic food products and supplements.
The business has been owned by Kate and Gary Clurow for the past three years.
They have decided to commemorate the milestone with a combination of memorabilia and decorations, such as old photographs of the shop from decades past, which will be displayed in the front window.
Mr Clurow said: “The previous owners had done such a great job and built up a strong reputation, which we hope to continue.
“We’ve gradually expanded the range of products over the years that we have been here, but mainly it’s just been trying to carry on the good work whilewho adding something new.”
The business will also be celebrating with limited time discounts and offers on the shop products.
“The timing of the anniversary works out quite well, because spring is definitely a good time for us in terms of business sales,” said Mrs Clurow.
“Lots of people come in for products to treat their allergies and hayfever.”
The shop maintains a loyal customer base of people local to the area who have continued to support the business across its entire lifetime.
“It’s word of mouth really,” she said.
“There are lots of people who refer other locals to our shop.”
One of the changes that the shop has made over recent years is the inclusion of gluten-free items to assist with people’s dietary requirements.
Despite the milestone, Mr and Mrs Clurow are not relaxing. They plan to continue their work towards maintaining their reputation, and also to bring out new products to meet changing customer needs.
“We love coming to work,” said Mrs Clurow. “A lot of companies can’t say that.”
