A woman who was killed in an explosion in Newark had to be identified through DNA tests, an inquest heard.

Pathologists were only able to confirm the identity of Mrs Jeanette Rourke through DNA matches with her mother and daughter.

The Nottinghamshire coroner, Mairin Casey, today opened her investigation into the deaths of Jeanette, aged 40, and her father-in-law Leslie Rourke, 71, who died in the blast at 28 Wright Street in May.

The opening of the inquests will allow funerals for the two to take place.
