Interest in town hotel development
A boutique hotel and underground carpark could be opened in Bingham town centre.
Plans to convert the Georgian building at 18 Market Place are to be resubmitted to Rushcliffe Borough Council by a Bingham businessman.
It would also include a bar and large terrace, two restaurants and a gym.
The businessman, who bought the listed building 14 years ago, has been using part of it as office space and has submitted several planning applications.
The project was delayed by the recession but the businessman said the project has now received interest from a coffee chain, hotel group and an international pizza company.
He said the property already had planning and listed building consent for a bar and large terrace overlooking the Market Place, which he said would be the only enclosed terrace in Nottinghamshire.
“It would be very upmarket without the snobbery and we would have high standards of everything,” said the businessman, who did not want to be named.
He said the project was just what Bingham needed.
He said the underground carpark would be open to the public, which could help to alleviate town centre parking congestion.
The office would be converted into a gym and hotel to be used as a venue for events such as meetings and weddings.
The businessman said people using the hotel would have access to a Rolls Royce.
It would include two interconnecting restaurants separated by a large bar, a limestone terrace, water features and a seating area in the garden.
It could include a restaurant with Indian or other Asian cuisine, and a jazz café but the details have yet to be finalised.
The businessman said he knew a top chef who could work in the Asian restaurant.
The building has a carpark at the rear but this would be replaced by a garden and terrace and an underground carpark would be installed.
