Reader's letter: Is this a joke or a sales pitch?

We read with disbelief the article regarding road repairs and maintenance in Nottinghamshire (Advertiser January 5).

It mentions reviews, recommendations, additional funding, and increased productivity.

The article seems to imply that improvements have been made in repairing pot holes — increased ‘proper’ repairs and less use of short term (emergency) repairs, i.e. throwing a shovel of viafix in the hole. Apparently we now have “vast improvements” in our roads.

Our roads remain appalling in areas. We’ve never seen a ‘proper’ repair.

I suggest Neil Clarke of the transport committee takes a look at The Ropewalk and Nottingham Road, Southwell, the road in and out of Thurgarton, the road between Lowdham and Burton Joyce, and the A6097 through Gunthorpe to A46, to name a few.

These are in a disgraceful state. We had visitors up at Cristmas from Dorset who commented on the state of the local roads and the requirement to slalom around the numerous pot holes. Embarrassing - we’re not holding our breathe for ‘proper’ road repairs around here any time soon.
