Mark Hanson, Serco contract director at HMP Lowdham Grange, said: “We have been working closely with Public Health England, the NHS and the director of Public Health for Nottinghamshire to look after everyone in the prison and we are taking every measure possible to keep them safe, maintain their mental wellbeing and combat the virus.

“Prisoners are self-isolating in their cells with limited time out; there is an enhanced cleaning plan in place; a programme to test every prisoner for covid is now underway and everybody, officers and prisoners alike, has been issued with face protection.

“Additionally our team is working with the NHS healthcare team to provide support for all the prisoners, talking to each and every one of them in their cells every day, with the healthcare team able to call the prisoners on their in-cell phones.

“There are now 84 people who have tested positive for covid and they are receiving further personal care and support as appropriate.”
