Judges impressed by café

A bakery and café that sells only gluten-free products has won a national award.

Newark Artisan Gluten Free Bakery and Café, on Chain Lane, is a bronze winner in the FreeFrom Eating Out Awards.

The awards recognise eateries and B&Bs that cater for people with allergies and intolerances.

The business was set up a year ago by Wendy Shaw and her partner, Ged Greaves.

The judges said the café was in a charming area of Newark and offered a friendly welcome.

“All their bread is gluten, egg and dairy free,” they said. “The bread was absolutely delicious, the sandwiches excellent and the shortbreads good.”
