Members of Newark Business Club completed a litter pick around a main gateway into Newark.

Lesley Pashley, of Nettl; Linda Clark and Rachel Ledua, of East Midlands Property Management; Molly Chesney, of MCL Marketing; and Daniel Otton and Abi Friar, of Buttercross Estates; worked around the Brownhills roundabout, off Lincoln Road.

Mr Otton said: "We collected six bin bags of waste. It was mostly fast-food waste, bottles, cans and cigarette butts.

"It came about from discussions at the business club, when Lesley and Linda said they were appalled by the amount of rubbish around Newark.

"Just prior to this, Abi and I had conducted a litter pick of our own around Top Row, Bottom Row and Beacon Hill Road because of the amount of rubbish near properties we were looking after.

"Our Keep Newark Tidy campaign will be conducted once a month for three to four hours at different areas around Newark.

"We welcome suggestions for other areas blighted by discarded waste as well as helping hands."

Weather permitting, the next collection will be on July 9 at 9am, at a location to be decided.

Details will be posted on the campaign’s Facebook group — www.facebook.com/groups/239340173301342
