Latest section of Newark Southern Link Road opens to traffic

After months of delays, the next section of the Newark Southern Link Road has opened.

The new stretch of carriageway between Boundary Road and Hawton, south of Newark, now means that motorists can now drive from Fernwood to Hawton without going through residential areas.

This section of the road was scheduled to open at the start of spring 2025, but has faced delays due to finishing works and its use as an access road for construction traffic.

Once complete, the full southern link road will connect the A1 to the A46, via a 5km stretch of new road.

It is hope that the Southern Link Road will reduce congestion on the Newark Bypass, and through the town, by allowing traffic to access the A1 from an alternative route.

The last section of the road to open to the public was between the Welcome Break in Fernwood and Bowbridge Lane, in October of last year.

The final piece of the puzzle being a new roundabout currently under construction by Brehenny Engineering on the A46 at Farndon, with a projected end date of autumn 2026.
