An area of grassland off Lincoln Road in Newark has been cordoned off by police after the discovery of a body this morning (Monday).

A tarpaulin sheet has been used to screen the body, believed to be that of a man.

The body has been covered by a sheet.

Both uniformed officers and detectives are at the scene.

A motorist who passed by said he saw lots of police and heard screams.

Neighbours reacted with shock.

One woman, whose property backs on to the location where the body, was found said: “It was the body of a man.

“Unfortunately my kids saw it from the window.

“The woman who called the ambulance looked very shaken.”

A passer-by, in his 30s, said: “I saw him before they placed the sheet over him and he didn’t look much older than me.

“It’s very upsetting.”

Nottinghamshire Police said: “Officers are responding to a report of a body found in the area.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.”
