Edwinstowe and the Dukeries Lions Club supports Footprints children’s charity
A Lions club has presented a cheque to a charity which transforms the lives of children with mobility and communication difficulties.
Edwinstowe and the Dukeries Lions Club, which is well-known throughout areas including Ollerton, Bilsthorpe, Edwinstowe and Wellow, frequently raises money for worthy causes both nationally and closer to home.
Jon Yarwood said: “Nearly all of the money collected is shared to these areas, but now and again we support the bigger charities, such as Macmillan, Marie Curie, John Eastwood Hospice, Rainbows Children's Hospice and of the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.
“Local people love the fact that we distribute back to the community to the people who help us, and I know that they do not begrudge us helping them as I guess many people have at one time received their support.”
At their August meeting, the Lions presented a cheque to the latest charity they have chosen to support, Footprints.
It is a Nottingham-based charity that supports and transforms the lives of children with mobility and communication difficulties, and helps children to develop the skills they need to thrive and achieve their full potential.
Jon added: “You can take it from me that I have seen at first hand the results of this great charity, but if you only do one thing after reading this article then check them out at www.footprintscec.org
“At our meeting we presented them with a cheque and we listened to them give a short overview. For me it was very emotional, and it reaffirmed why I am a Lion.”
A total of £445 was raised for the charity.
