Long-distance cyclist ready to ride again

A long-distance cycling specialist is taking to the saddle again to raise money for the Rumbles Catering Project charity.

Mr Stephen Graham, 52, of Edwinstowe, will be taking part in the Fred Whitton Challenge, in June.

Rumbles Catering Project, which has a café in Sconce and Devon Park, Newark, educates and trains young people and adults with learning disabilities.

The challenge will see Mr Graham take on all of the routes and passes in The Lake District before heading up to the north of Scotland.

On the first day, he will start with a 112-mile ride that starts and finishes at Keswick, Cumbria, with more than 3,900metres of climbing throughout.

Mr Graham will then tackle a 400-mile route over four days through the hills of north Scotland before riding back down south through the Solway Coast.

Mr Graham said he decided to raise money for the charity after hearing about the good work it did.

“A friend of the family is involved with Rumbles and told us all about the work they do and that they always needed support,” he said.

“I thought it would be a good cause to raise money for so I decided to think of something to do.

“The wet weather has made training difficult and I have hurt my back, but I am going to make sure I am as fit as I can be for the ride.”

Mr Graham has undertaken numerous challenges in the past, riding from Blackpool Tower to France’s Eiffel Tower, as well as from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

He also rode from Whitehaven to Sunderland and back in 22 hours.
