A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and making threats to destroy property. He was bailed with conditions pending further inquiries.

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for Newark Charlotte Allardice said: "This is an incident that understandably would have caused a lot of distress for the family and we always take such reports seriously.

"Making such threats and causing such fear is absolutely unacceptable, and wherever there are such reports we will investigate thoroughly and take the appropriate measures to keep everyone safe.

"We would reassure people that we believe this is an isolated incident between people known to each other. However, neighbourhood officers will be in the area and we would encourage you to speak to them or get in touch with any concerns.

"A man has been arrested and officers are continuing their enquiries into the incident. We would urge anyone with information to get in touch on 101, quoting incident 432 of August 2, 2021."
