Bomb squad determine metal object unearthed during building works was NOT explosive




An incident in which a suspected explosive device was unearthed during building works has drawn to a close.

Nottinghamshire Police received a report of a suspected explosive device discovered underground at a building site off London Road in Balderton, just after 9.15am today.

The item was believed to have been a second world war shell.

Specialist advice was sought from the bomb squad and a cordon put in place.

Inspector Steve O’Connell, who oversaw the incident, said: “We always treat these calls with the utmost caution to ensure the safety of everyone in the area.

"I would like to thank the local community for their patience while we brought this incident to a safe conclusion.”

The bomb squad determined the metal object was not an explosive.
