Minimal disruption to Newark and Sherwood District Council services as a result of today's strike
Services operated by Newark and Sherwood District Council are experiencing minimal disruption today as a result of the strike by public servants.
A council spokesman said a decision had been taken to cancel the recycling bin collection primarily in the Hawtonville Estate area of Newark to divert the resources into the collection of household refuse instead.
Recycling bins will now be collected on Saturday. The spokesman urged local residents to take in their bins and not leave them out until Saturday so they don't look unsightly.
Normal services are expected to resume tomorrow.
There is a small picket line at Kelham Hall today as part of the action by Unison and the GMB unions over pay and conditions. 634 people work for Newark and Sherwood District Councul and 63 of them are on strike today.
