WISE partnership with Newark and Sherwood District Council sees more than 500 fixed penalty notices issued
More than 500 fixed penalty notices have been issued in the first month of a new partnership.
With Waste Investigations, Support and Enforcement (WISE) Newark and Sherwood District Council has issued 529 fixed penalty notices.
The aim of the one-year pilot partnership is to crackdown on environmental crimes, including dog fouling, fly-tipping and littering, and to deter others from doing the same. The scheme has significantly increased the number of enforcement officers to achieve this.
Known problem areas are being patrolled by WISE 12 hours a day, seven days a week.
A total of 522 fines have been issued for littering and seven for dog fouling.
After reviewing street-cleansing and foot traffic data, requests and complaints, the district council increased the number of dog waste bins and litter bins across the district in a bid to deter individuals from committing environmental crimes, and keep communities cleaner, safer and greener.
Council leader David Lloyd said: “We are just as committed as ever to tackling environmental crime and maintaining our beautiful district.
“We are clamping down on offenders and will continue to do so by significantly building on our current enforcement resources in this area and issuing the rightly-deserved fines.
“Tackling environmental crimes such as littering, dog fouling, and graffiti remains a key priority for us.”
Anyone can report environmental crimes on the council website.
