Motorists travelling across Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, including the A46 and A1 near Newark, could face delays as abnormal loads are transported over two Sundays

Motorists have been warned of potential delays as parts of a large bridge are set to be moved across the county over two Sundays.

The abnormal loads, weighting 229 tonnes in total, will travel across parts of Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire on Sunday, August 3, and Sunday, August 10.

Both loads are set to leave Humber Sea Terminal at about 11am before travelling down Clough Lane, North Killingholme and Immingham.

Lincolnshire Police will help escort the loads along the A180 and M180, and then down the A15 and A46 until they reach the Newark slip road.

The convoy will then continue its journey to join the A1 northbound before switching to the M18 on the way to its final destination in Birmingham.

A force spokesperson said: “The route taken has been approved by National Highways and local councils.

“A more direct route is not always feasible for abnormal loads of this size.

“Movement is not permitted during the hours of darkness within Lincolnshire.

“We know it can be frustrating being delayed on the road and we thank you for your patience.

The loads will be travelling at around 35 to 45mph.
