Southwell councillor Roger Jackson hands over reins to new Nottinghamshire County Council chairman




A new chairman has been elected to a council at its annual general meeting.

Nottinghamshire County Council’s new chairman was presented with the chains of office at the meeting yesterday (Thursday).

County councillor for Southwell, Roger Jackson, has been chairman of the council for the past year.

He handed over the reins to John Ogle, who represents Tuxford and was previously vice-chairman of the full council.

Mr Ogle also presented Mr Jackson with a past chairman’s badge.

As part of the meeting a portrait of the new chairman was unveiled in the council chamber by chief executive Adrian Smith.

It was also announced that Mr Ogle had chosen the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) as his community cause for his year as chairman.

A new vice-chairman was also appointed at the meeting.

Richard Butler, who represents Cotgrave on the council, was elected to the role.

On Twitter, Nottinghamshire County Council said: “We’d like to officially welcome councillor Ogle and councillor Butler to their new roles for the year ahead.”
