Newark schools to shut due to strike action on Thursday
Nottinghamshire County Council has announced several schools, libraries and day care services are expected to close on Thursday due to the national day of strike action.
All major public sector trade unions, including those for teachers, are striking.
As of Monday, among the Advertiser area schools to have informed the county council they were closing were the Orchard Special School, Newark, and Minster School, Southwell.

- Lowes Wong Infant School, Southwell (various closures)
- Minster CE School, Southwell
- Orchard Special School, Newark
Burton Joyce Primary School is partially open for Year 1, Year 2, one Year 3 class and Year 6.
Lowdham Library will be shut as will day care services in Ollerton.
The council says it will be responding on the day as needs arise and is working on contingency plans to help vulnerable service users to ensure they get the services they need.

Newark and Sherwood District Council said it was expecting some services to be hit but a spokesman said it was impossible "to quantify" which ones as yet.
A march is planned through Nottingham on Thursday.
