A THUG who assaulted a man in a Newark pub and then a police officer who responded has been jailed.

Alistair Paterson, who has a lengthy record and was already on a suspended jail sentence, attacked a man in the Sir John Arderne in Newark Market Place and then a police officer who attended.

In jailing Paterson, magistrates sitting in Nottingham said it was an unprovoked attack of a serious nature.

He was jailed for 30 weeks following guilty pleas.

Paterson, 36, of Pelham Street, Newark, also admitted failing to attend court.

In unrelated offending, he pleaded guilty to theft of £115 of goods from Co-op on Churchill Drive, and breaching the suspended prison term, which was imposed for four counts of shoplifting and one of stealing a bicycle. He received concurrent sentences.

A COMPANY that failed to give information as to the identity of a driver in a vehicle registered to them, who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence, was fined by magistrates.

Gascoine Group, which has the address of the estate agency on Church Street, Southwell, had the case against it proved in absence.

It related to two offences involving a Land Rover/Range Rover committed on April 28 in Arnold.

In addition to a fine of £1,000 per offence, Gascoine Group must pay £165 in costs.

A MAN was found guilty of assaulting a police officer in an attempt to resist lawful detention.

Daniel Cox, 21, of Manor Drive, Long Bennington, had denied it.

Nottingham magistrates fined him £300, told him to pay the officer £75 compensation and awarded £620 costs against him following a trial.
