A girl who turned nine on the day Princess Charlotte was born wrote a letter of congratulation and is all smiles this week after receiving a reply from the Royals.

Katie White, 9, of North Muskham, decided to contact the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge after “her face lit up” when she heard the princess had been born on her birthday.

Sandra White, Katie’s mother, said: “We were away on holiday and we were celebrating Katie’s birthday on May 2.

“I joked to her and said: ‘wouldn’t it be funny if the royal baby was born today.’

“When we heard Princess Charlotte had been born, we couldn’t believe it was on the same day.

“Katie’s face lit up. She was so excited.”

Sandra said Katie, who is a pupil at Muskham Primary School, decided to write a letter to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The letter said: “To the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

“My name is Katie and I turned nine years old on May 2.

“I was so excited that Princess Charlotte was born on this day, I had to write to you.

“I hope you don’t mind but I am going to draw some love hearts.

“Regards, Katie.”

She also drew a picture of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and of Princess Charlotte.

“We weren’t expecting a reply, so when we got a letter through the post with a stamp saying it had come from Kensington Palace we were both so excited,” Sandra said.

The letter said: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were most touched that you took the trouble to write as you did on the birth of their daughter Princess Charlotte.

“Their Royal Highnesses are extremely grateful for the wonderful messages they have received and send you their warmest thanks and best wishes.”

The response bore the name of the latest addition to the Windsor family, HRH Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge.

Sandra said she was proud of Katie.

“Sometimes she has difficulty with writing and she wrote the letter all by herself with not much help,” she said.

Katie said she would be looking out for Princess Charlotte on the television as she grows up.

“Sharing a birthday with the princess makes mine much more special,” she said.

The royal response has now been framed.
