Planners reject flats proposal
A planned development of six one-bedroom apartments has been described as trying to fit a quart in a pint pot.
The comment came from the leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, Mr Roger Blaney, during a debate about an application for a site in Balderton.
He said he was not against development on the site, to the east of the junction of Main Street with Hollowdyke Lane, but what was being proposed was not acceptable.
The application was turned down by the district planning committee last Thursday.
Mrs Sue Saddington said: “I don’t mind one property but this is too many.”
Mrs Linda Tift said there was too much planned for the size of the site.
“I am not saying we can’t have something there, but this is ridiculous,” she said.
Balderton Parish Council was concerned that the entrance to the site was dangerous because it was close to a busy junction.
Planning officers recommended approval of the plans and said there was a need for one-bedroom units, which was in its favour.
They said although the proposed development was tight, they considered it would not be detrimental to visual and residential amenities of people living in the area.
