Former K Porter butchers on Appletongate, Newark, proposed as new site for hot food takeaway

A planning application has been submitted that would allow for a hot food takeaway in a former town centre butchers.

The application relating to the former K Porter butchers on Appletongate, Newark, a long-established but now closed business, is for a change of use from a shop to takeaway.

It doesn’t specify whether an operator has been lined up or the sort of food the takeaway would serve.

The application argues there is a diminishing need for shops in the town centre.

Listed building consent as well as a change of use approval is required from Newark and Sherwood District Council for the plans to progress with the town council’s planning committee offering comment for or against.

The upstairs of the property, which is 21 Appletongate opposite Newark Palace Theatre, already has consent for apartments to be created in the upstairs of the historic town centre end-terrace.
