Play surface work begins

Work starts today to transform a disabled girl’s garden into a safer area for her to play.

Alanna Brown, 5, of Apple Tree Close, Newark, who has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, will be able to use her wheelchair and walker on a special play surface, giving her more independence.

Her mother, Miss Lisa Brown, 31, struggled to pay for the surface, but after an article in the Advertiser she was inundated with offers of support from businesses.

Sid Paver and Sons Ltd, will begin digging up the garden in preparation for the surface to be laid.

Mrs Zoe Murr, the office manager, has so far secured skips, building materials and labour all free of charge.

“We have about ten volunteers helping out including our members of staff, some of the players from both the Bridge Colts and Winthorpe Tigers under-16s’ football teams and anyone else we can grab,” Mrs Murr said.

A bag-pack at Morrisons organised by Mrs Vicky Buckland, of Rowan Way, Balderton, raised £812.

Miss Brown said the money was going towards a water feature for the garden.
