Armed police search Tolney Lane, Newark, after sighting of man with shotgun
Armed police carried out a search in Newark after receiving a concerned call over a man carrying a shotgun.
Inspector Matt Ward, divisional commander for Newark and Sherwood, said officers conducted a search of Tolney Lane on Tuesday morning but did not find the man or anything of concern.
"We received a call about someone carrying a firearm on Tolney Lane and armed officers were dispatched to the scene," he said.
"A thorough search of the area was conducted and no-one was located. There was no cause for alarm, no-one had been threatened and there was no evidence of any crime being committed.
"The report was of someone carrying a shotgun but no suggestion of them doing anything untoward with it.
"I would encourage anyone, no matter where they are, to call us if they see something such as this that causes them concern."
