Poll: Should Newark’s public toilets be free to use?

Plans for free public toilets in the town centre have gone down the pan for now — but do you think they should have a charge?

At a meeting of Newark Town Council last Wednesday (September 15) Paul Taylor withdrew his motion to propose the end of the 20 pence charge for public toilets.

He was to propose that the town council start a public consultation on the charge for public toilets, which currently cost council taxpayers £100,000 per year.

Mr Taylor said that he would have to do further work on the proposal before bringing it forward to a vote in a council meeting in order to please all parties.

The initial motion to be presented would cost the town council approximately £5,000.

In this week’s poll we want to know if you think public toilets should be free to use.
