Police escort protestors from Priti Patel Conservative fundraiser as councillor says they achieved nothing more than making a donation
Home Secretary Priti Patel's speech to Conservatives on Friday night was interrupted by protestors.
The group had posed as Tories to get tickets to the event, which was raising money for the Bassetlaw Conservative Association.
The group of six had posed for pictures with Priti Patel before taking it turns to stand on chairs to interrupt her.
Police intervened within seconds and ejected them one by one as they spoke.
One of those on the Home Secretary's table, the Conservative member for Balderton on the district and county councils, Johno Lee, described their actions as pointless.
"We couldn't actually hear a word that they said. The fact is is that they paid £50 a ticket which will go to Conservative association funds to help fight the next local elections in Bassetlaw, he said.
"And they paid for their travel from London and for what? They made a scene but nobody could actually hear them.
"I certainly couldn't hear them and if I couldn't I imagine it was the same for Priti Patel.
"They had seemed to enjoy the evening up until that point, posing for pictures with Priti Patel and buying raffle tickets.
"Then they leapt on chairs when the Home Secretary was speaking but had a matter of seconds before the police intervened and ejected them, all the while while guests were shouting over them telling them to sit down or to leave.
"It was all over in a matter of seconds."
The Home Secretary was at the event to fulfil a promise of returning to the area made to Bassetlaw MP Brendan Clarke-Smith during his maiden election campaign.
As well as raising money for constituency funds, money was also raised for the Ukraine crisis.
"It was nice to speak to her," said Mr Lee.
"I took the opportunity to talk to her about crime and anti-social behaviour in the Balderton Division."
The group of six filmed themselves as they interrupted the Home Secretary's speech and demanded she end her controversial Rwanda immigration policy.
Ben Mitchell, one of the disruptors, tweeted a picture of himself with the Home Secretary.
In the accompanying text, he wrote: "It was lovely to see you last night @pritipatel! You even thanked us for coming all the way up just for you... you're so welcome.
"We hope you now know that young people will not be silent while you sanction these racist and inhumane plans."
