The first fruit trees have been planted at a restored orchard.

Newark and Sherwood District Council’s teams have worked to restore the community orchard at Sconce and Devon Park as part of its winter programme of tree works.

Yesterday (January 24) the first fruit trees were planted at the site by the council’s environmental team, the Sconce and Devon park ranger and volunteers.

The orchard will be made up of native fruit trees, and the first stages of work at the site saw it cleared of diseased trees and invasive species.

It is one of a number of planting projects underway to help protect and enhance the district’s parks this winter.

Elsewhere, a native wildflower walk and rose memorial garden are to be created at Vicar Water Country Park and The Three Rivers Project is also underway.
