Reach Learning Disability to enhance sustainability with grant
Reach Learning Disability will work to enhance its environmental and financial sustainability through its Green Citizens programme thanks to a grant from the Samworth Foundation’s Transformation and Innovation fund.
Reach will use the funding to install solar panels, improve rainwater harvesting facilities and develop accessible wildlife gardens at its two Flower Pod sites in Southwell and Newark.
The Flower Pod ethos has always been about sustainability and conservation — a new course will be developed to enable people with learning disabilities to share learning about green issues with the wider community.
Sam Ward, project lead at Flower Pod, said: “During the pandemic, our clients and their families repeatedly told us that our outdoor activities were crucial for their physical and emotional well-being. That’s why we opened our second Flower Pod centre in Newark in 2020.
“We were delighted to receive funding from the Samworth Foundation Transformation and Innovation Fund to help get more people with learning disabilities and local people involved in the green agenda.
“We want to ensure we use our sites and natural resources efficiently benefit our clients and community now and in the future.”
