Alcohol could be sold around-the-clock at a petrol station on the outskirts of a town centre.

Malthurst Retail Ltd has applied to Newark and Sherwood District Council for permission to vary the premises licence for the BP petrol station at 69, Northgate, Newark, which currently can sell alcohol between 5am and 11pm.

Members of Newark Town Council's planning committee raised no objections to the plans but recommended the alcohol should be sold through a kiosk.

Council leader Mr David Lloyd recommended the proposal to stop groups of people visiting the petrol station during the early hours.

The district council's licensing committee will have the final say on the proposals.
