Newark and Sherwood public notice: Road closure to protect toads

The annual closure of a road to help protect migrating toads is in this week’s Advertiser public notices section.

The Nottinghamshire County Council notice covers the whole length of Beanfold Lane through Oxton and Calverton.

According to the notice, the closure is needed because of the likelihood of danger to the public due to migratory roads crossing the road.

The road is part of an ancient migration route across the Dover Beck and hundreds of amphibians use it every year.

Residents have been fundraising to cover the yearly cost of the road closure for more than 20 years to protect the toads.

The closure will come into force on Monday, March 1, and remain in place until Wednesday, March 31.

An alternative route is via the B6386 Nottingham Road and Whinbush Lane.

Other public notices published this week include the temporary closure to vehicles of Cross Street, Newark; Main Street, Syerston; and Cockett Lane, Farnsfield, for works to take place, as well as a temporary footpath closure in Bleasby.
