Newark’s Newest Grotto has opened at Holdens for a third year and Santa is coming to town

Santa is back in town. Newark’s Newest Grotto has opened at Holdens for a third year.

It is for the Children’s Bereavement Centre and the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance in memory of Daniel Harris, 6, of Fernwood, who died just before Christmas, 2017, and inspired a #dab4daniel campaign.

The grotto, which raised more than £6,500 last year, offers busy families the chance to see Santa with a pre-bookable service.

It started in 2017 as the brainchild of two working mums who wanted somewhere local to take their children without queueing.

For an extra sprinkle of magic there is the Magical Experience — an hour of festive fun, which includes range of activities.

Emma Holden said “We are proud to host the grotto again and have been overwhelmed by both the sponsorship we have received from the business community and the number of people that give up their valuable time to volunteer and make the grotto happen.”

Rachel Wilson, of the Children’s Bereavement Centre, said: “Christmas can be a tough time for some and seeing the children’s faces when they enter the grotto is what Christmas is all about.”

Heather Rabett, of the air ambulance, said: “The grotto ensures children and families have a wonderful time at Christmas, while raising money for such great causes, which is what Christmas is all about.”

The grotto is open on selective dates until 5pm on December 23.
