Members of 1st Balderton Scouts are continuing throughout the coronavirus lockdown by meeting virtually

Members of 1st Balderton Scouts are carrying on Scouting, despite the coronavirus lockdown — by meeting virtually.

They have even managed to join a national jamboree.

Just like everything else, face-to-face Scout meetings have been suspended as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

However, that hasn’t stopped 1st Balderton Scouts carrying on with their activities.

Leader Katherine Hawkins said: “We have already had virtual meetings for Cubs, Scouts and Explorers using Zoom so that they can stay connected and continue to take part in activities.

“Then, at least 42 young people, plus some leaders, from 1st Balderton Scouts took part in Jamboree At Home.

“The idea was started by a World Scouting Volunteer and shared on Twitter.

“We wanted to join in with other Scout Groups across the country and take part.

“The jamboree involved the young people either building a den or blanket tent inside their house or pitching a tent in their garden and then sleeping in it.

“Young people from all four age sections — Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers — of 1st Balderton took part, as did some younger siblings too.

“It really was great to see so many embracing this activity and the inventive ideas they had come up with for their dens.”
