Sherwood Forest named as one of UK's top ten most Instagrammable forests
Sherwood Forest has been named as one of the most picture perfect forests in the country based on it's popularity on social media.
The list of the ten most Instagrammable forests in the UK comes as it was revealed there were a record 296 million visits to the nation's forests in the last year.
Since the pandemic, many have taken to the great outdoors and embraced the beauty of forests, whether that be through dog-walking, running, or just to enjoy the fresh air and natural landscape.
With this in mind waste removal company, ClearitWaste.co.uk, wanted to find out which of the UK’s most famous forests was the most photographed or Instagrammable.
The list was compiled by considering national forests listed in publications such as Countryfile, Countryliving, Crosscountry and Pebble mag.
An order was then calculated according to number of Instagram hashtags with the formula ‘#forestname’ used exclusively to get the most accurate results.
Overall, data for 31 forests was collected with the forests then ranked from most to least number of hashtags.
The top ten most Instagrammable forests in the UK and their number of hashtags:
- The New Forest: Hampshire, England — 971,000
- Royal Forest of Dean: Gloucestershire, England — 295,000
- Sherwood Forest: Nottinghamshire, England — 167,000
- Epping Forest: Essex, England — 144,000
- Ashdown Forest: Sussex, England — 58,600
- Delamere Forest: Cheshire, England — 55,700
- Dalby Forest: Yorkshire, England — 44,800
- Thetford Forest: Norfolk/Suffolk, England — 38,800
- Wyre Forest:Worcestershire, England — 32,200
- Hamsterley Forest: County Durham, England — 31,800
Sherwood Forest placed third in the list as the famous dwelling of English folklore hero and outlaw Robin Hood.
Perhaps most notorious of all the forests in the research, many visitors have taken the opportunity to photograph their visits with a huge 167,000 Instagram hashtags.
Nottinghamshire's most famous forest was only pipped to the post by The Forest of Dean with 295,000 Instagram hashtags in second place and The New Forest with an impressive 971,000 Instagram hashtags in first place.
