Shoppers shell out for a good cause
A shop assistant took a bath in a tub full of mushy peas for charity.
Jo Hallam, a customer assistant at Boots on Stodman Street, Newark, spent Saturday laying back in the murky green mixture wearing a green wig and surrounded by rubber ducks.
She raised £1,716 for Boots’ chosen charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.
Jo, pictured with fellow fundraisers Sam Redgrift (left) and Gemma Jones, said: “It is actually quite soothing and soft, although it doesn’t smell too good. Maybe once it has dried on it will be good for exfoliating.
“I was going to have my head shaved, and then somebody suggested the idea of a bath. I thought ‘why not?’
“We went for peas because they are green, which is Macmillan’s colour.”
Local businesses donated the mushy peas and the Bathstore provided the bath.
Boots deputy manager, Miss Sam Redgrift, said: “Jo is amazing, she will volunteer for anything. I am not sure it will catch on as a beauty treatment though.”
