A charity that has lost a large slice of its funding is appealing for people to sign up for three events to help ensure its services continue.

The Children’s Bereavement Centre, King’s Road, Newark, relies on financial support from local fundraising, charity trusts, organisations and donations.

Until recently it received 8% of its money — £25,188 a year — from Mansfield and Ashfield and Newark and Sherwood Clinical Commissioning Groups. That has now been cut.

Corporate and community engagement co-ordinator Caz Froggatt said they hoped people would help to make up the shortfall by taking part in its fundraising events.

Free places are available if people commit to raising certain levels of sponsorship.

The first is a skydive at Langar Airfield on June 3.

“This is the first event of its kind that we have put on for our supporters,” said Caz.

“We are hoping it will appeal to all the adrenaline-loving people out there who are looking for a challenge of a lifetime.”

The centre has also been chosen to be one of this year’s official Newark Half-marathon charity partners, along with Newark Mind and Beaumond House Community Hospice, Newark.

The charity has been given free places to offer to supporters and is hoping a mix of first-timers and more experienced runners will tackle the course on its behalf on August 12.

The centre also has some free child places for the fun run.

Finally, on September 8, the centre will team up with UK Running Events for a Newark Inflatable 5k at Newark Showground.
