The manager of a Newark store has been chosen to travel to Africa to see a project set up as a result of Comic Relief fundraising.

Mr Sam Burbidge was among staff from TK Maxx invited to the company’s Watford headquarters when it was revealed how much the company had raised for this year’s Red Nose Day.

They also announced the names of 12 staff selected to go to Africa in recognition of their contribution to the fundraising.

Mr Burbidge was one of three picked from the retail sector after being nominated by all ten managers in the Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire district.

Community champion

“I am so proud and looking forward to the opportunity,” he said.

Mr Burbidge is the district’s community champion for corporate and social responsibility and has been manager at the Newark store, on Northgate Retail Park, for two years.

He said he regarded charity fundraising as important and was always keen to take part in events along with the rest of his team.

“I really enjoy it and believe in giving back to the community,” Mr Burbidge said.

As part of the Red Nose Day fundraising he and a colleague, Mr Colm Walsh-Kavanagh, took part in an overnight sleep-out in Newark Castle grounds, which raised about £400.
