Summer trail fun for the children at Southwell Minster

Southwell Minster is bringing back the popular BrickMinster summer trail for children and families for the duration of the summer holidays.

This year the mini-brick models will be inspired by the cathedral’s fabulous stained glass windows — the colours, shapes and stories they tell.

Visitors can collect a trail booklet from one of the stewards (suggested donation 50p) and take a walk around the minster hunting for amazing Lego models, which are all designed and created by a local family.

Plus there will be a display of art work — also inspired by the windows — made by schools and children from Nottinghamshire.

All are welcome and there's no need to book — just turn up and find out more about this wonderful building and the stories it tells.

Visitors are also invited to a family-friendly launch service on July 14 at 5pm in the minster, which is led by local children.

Children can bring their Lego creations with them.

The ever-popular medieval themed family fun day out in the minster and gardens is on July 30, in the company of Robin Hood and his merry outlaws.

Try your hand at traditional crafts, such as wood turning and weaving, accompanied by the City of Lincoln Waites traditional medieval musicians.

There will be archery, dancing and craft activities that can be made and then taken home.

There is a suggested donation of £1 per child over three, adults and tots are free (small charges may apply for some activities).

Bring a picnic and stay all day — refreshments will be available — and all welcome.

Diana Ives, education officer said: "We are delighted to be able to offer fun days out for children and their carers during the long summer holidays, and BrickMinster is a great concept, which children and adults seem to enjoy.

"The minster is a wonderful space for both fun and reflective activities, and the gardens are beautiful at this time of year.

"There is nothing better than to see all generations having fun together here."
