Sun shines as thousands flock to Collingham Agricultural Society’s 171st Collingham Show and Ploughing Match

Blue skies and sunshine heralded the return of Collingham Show and Ploughing Match over the weekend.

The annual event, now in its 171st year, attracted over 3,000 people for a day of farming fun which showcased the best that rural life and the countryside has to offer.

There was plenty to see, from vintage cars and tractor displays, to falconry displays, crafts, and produce stalls.

But the main event was the ploughing match and the horse events, where farmers and equine enthusiasts showed off their skills.

Visitors were even treated to a horse fancy dress competition, with superhero themes, Minions, and a bride and groom.

Organised by Collingham Agricultural Society, the show has been hailed as a success thanks to huge public support from the community and a small group of volunteers who do a big job.

Society chairman, Dianne Rowlands, said: “It was a perfect day, we had beautiful weather and great crowds.

“I think it’s important to keep the traditions of these small agricultural shows going — its also great event for the community.

“I want to say thank you to all of our volunteers, because without them the show wouldn’t happen. Thanks you to the Sheldon Family who allow us to use their land. And thank you to the paying public for continuing to support us.

“We don’t make any money from the show — everything we raise goes into funding the next year and we have already started planning.”
