Nottinghamshire County Council start talks on how to improve county’s 2,750 miles of roads




A cross-party highways review panel has had its inaugural meeting to look at how to deliver improvements across Nottinghamshire’s 2,750 miles of roads.

The panel, led by Neil Clarke, chairman of the council’s transport and environment committee has six members ­— Maureen Dobson, Penny Gowland, Tom Hollis, John Ogle, Sam Smith and Nigel Tuner.

It has been set up to look at all areas of highways management, including road inspections, improvement programmes and funding, maintenance treatments and repair techniques

Mr Clarke said: “We have agreed the issues we need to be exploring, we will also be engaging external experts for an independent review of the highways function as critical friends.

“Next week we will be visiting Via East Midlands — the highways company wholly owned by the county council — head office and depot to look at the resources and the methods currently used for highways works.
