Newark Parish Church hosts the final Beaumond House Hospice Care Light Up A Life service tonight

The final Beaumond House Hospice Care Light Up A Life service of 2021 will be held this evening at Newark Parish Church.

It will include a heartfelt reading by patient Mick Longmate (pictured) who reflects on the care and compassion shown to him by the care team at Beaumond House.

He says: “I have had it said to me many times that Beaumond House is a place to die. It is so much more than that.

“I have been lucky enough to experience all aspects of this beautiful place and death is by no means a prominent feature. In fact, the reverse is true.

“Day therapy is fun and laughter all the way with Lizzie and Anna constantly finding ways to keep us entertained. Hospice at Home is a group of amazing carers who saved me from utter despair.

“So, with a lot of help from this band of angels I now look forward to each new day, especially Tuesdays and Thursdays when I get a home visit. I spend thousands of hours a year on my own and these ladies understand the meaning of loneliness.

“Dark thoughts no longer cross my mind and my tears of sadness have turned to tears of joy.”

Led by Captain Matt Elsey, from Newark Salvation Army, who is a volunteer at the hospice, the Light Up A Life Service also will feature an emotive reading from Nicola Payne, a nurse at Beaumond House who will talk about her love for working at the hospice.

The Newark Rock Choir will perform and refreshments will be available.

Doors open at 6.30pm and the service starts at 7pm.

The hospice continues to appeal for support to enable them to provide free, personalised care to the community.

Businesses can support the hospice by buying a Corporate Hospice Heart.
