Red Rose Care Community in Farndon welcomed family and friends for its annual Seaside Day celebration
A care home saw three generations come together for its annual Seaside Day celebration, where a garden turned into a nostalgic seaside retreat.
Red Rose Care Community in Farndon welcomed families and friends to its premises on July 31, for a day of fun, sand and themed food.
The event began with a traditional fish and chips lunch, followed by an afternoon of coastal-themed entertainment.
This year’s celebration featured an array of beach-themed activities designed to engage all generations.
The popular ‘pin-the-tail on the mermaid’ game returned alongside the hook-a- duck stall, whilst paddling pools provided refreshing relief from the summer heat.
Children got the chance to blow bubbles and build sandcastles in specially created sandpits, draw crowds of residents and family members.
A highlight of the afternoon was the visit from Cupcake the pony, courtesy of Pet a Pony, which provided therapeutic interaction that brought smiles to the faces of both young and old.
He added: “I always enjoy days like this,” said Tony, whose wife is a resident at the care home.
“It is so good for the residents. It gives everyone a chance to see new things and meet other people, instead of sitting in their chairs inside.
“They’re out and actively enjoying new experiences.”
The event featured a live performance from Melody Flyte, whose musical journey through the decades had many visitors dancing.
Activities coordinators Charlotte and Dwayne, who had spent weeks preparing for the event, were thrilled with the turnout.
They said: “In the weeks leading up to Seaside Day, we’ve been building excitement throughout the community with arts and crafts sessions, seaside bingo, and hoop games.
“We decorated all the windows to brighten up the day and create that special seaside atmosphere” they explained.
“What makes this event so meaningful is that we’re able to bring all the loved ones together and provide opportunities to build new memories.
“Many of our residents are no longer able to visit the seaside themselves, so it is a real privilege to have the support to create these special days.
“There is nothing quite like seeing three generations come together - the joy on everyone’s faces makes all our planning efforts worthwhile.”
General manager Joanne Brown described the day as being an ‘absolute triumph as the laughter and joy from residents and their families filled the garden.
