Tributes paid to stalwart of Newark Town Bowls and Social Club Jeff Thorpe
Tributes have been paid to a stalwart of Newark Town Bowls and Social Club.
Jeff Thorpe was admitted into hospital in November where he remained until his death.
Mr Thorpe was described as a keen bowler, a private man, and well respected, particularly in the bowling world.
The club said: “We were all saddened to hear of the death of our chairman, Jeffrey Thorpe, following an extended hospital stay and surgery.
“Previously holding the position of secretary, his exemplary administrative skills and conscientiousness were very much appreciated. Jeff was always willing to take on responsibility, especially with regard to the covid crisis year we all experienced.
“A competent and dedicated bowler, his love extended from lawn, indoor and short mat, always polite yet very competitive, which demonstrated his expertise
“We will all miss his presence, along with Merlin his dog, and our thoughts are with his family and friends at his sad time.”
