Southwell Town Council calling for yellow bikes and displays to welcome Tour of Britain back to town

A town is aiming to turn yellow to welcome elite cyclists on the Tour of Britain.

The international race set to return to the streets of Newark and Sherwood for a fourth time this September, starting from the Derby Arena, Derby and ending in Newark’s Sconce and Devon Park.

Along the way it will pass through many towns and villages, including Southwell — where the town council is already preparing to celebrate.

Southwell Town Council is appealing for any spare scrap bikes or bike wheels residents might have, to be decorated and used to line the route through the town.

They will be collected at the Old Courthouse, and deliveries should be arranged via email at admin@southwell-tc.gov.uk.

The council is also calling on residents to create their own yellow coloured bikes and displays for along the route to ‘light up’ the town.

The race will pass through on September 6, at around 12.50pm, following a route along Halam Road, Queen Street, King Street, the Burgage and Station Road.
