Southwell Town Council agrees to create tree nursery for 20 new trees
A council is set to create a tree nursery to cultivate 20 trees.
The trees were ordered by Steve Perry, having been approved by the Southwell Town Council, as part of his plans to create a commemorative tree-lined path in Southwell’s War Memorial Recreation Ground.
While plans for the path have not yet been decided, councillors agreed the purchase of the trees as they could be used anywhere in the town if the path plan fell through.
It was suggested to be a memorial to Queen Elizabeth II and mark the coronation of King Charles III.
The trees are now ready to collect, although are too small to be planted out in the busy park.
A nursery was suggested to be created in the Squires Pond area, on the higher land away from the pond, where the trees could grow for a few years and become larger and stronger.
It was unanimously agreed by the town environment committee.
