Despite freezing temperatures, Newark’s night shelter for homeless people has remained unused.

The shelter at Barnbygate Methodist Church, which is staffed by volunteers, was opened on Thursday of last week and was available until last night.

The shelter opens when outside temperatures are forecast to fall below zero on three consecutive nights or more.

Temperatures are predicted to rise today.

The shelter offers a camp bed for the night and breakfast the following morning.
