Radcliffe pub takes its second county best title in the National Pub and Bar Awards

A village pub has been named the county’s best for the second year running, writes Will Hugall.

The Radcliffe, in Radcliffe, won the title from the National Pub and Bar Awards 2022, who also selected the pub as its Nottinghamshire winner in 2021.

It means The Radcliffe are one of 94 pubs from across in the UK that will attend a national grand final in London.

“We are absolutely elated to be announced best pub in Nottinghamshire by the National Pub and Bar Awards for the second year running”, said general manager Zannah Sharpley.

“To be so highly commended by a national company is an outstanding achievement.

“It’s a testament to our fantastic, genuine team of exceptional chefs, waiters and bartenders who strive to exceed our guests’ expectations in each and every visit.

The awards, hosted by Pub and Bar magazine, aim to draw attention to outstanding examples of UK pubs and put them in the national spotlight.

For The Radcliffe, this has had a significant effect since its first title in 2021, as trade has increased and praise has kept coming their way.

Zannah said: “We are so fortunate with our lovely setting. Our large garden offers a place of peace and escapism where you can enjoy delicious food and drinks served by a super friendly, warm team.

“It’s been very exciting, sharing the news with all our loyal customers. We have also seen so many new guests visiting The Radcliffe for the first time which is terrific.”

Directors of the pub David Hage and Mark Osborne have tasted plenty of success in the awards over the years.

With The Radcliffe’s sister pub, The Railway at Lowdham, they won the East Midlands regional prize at the 2018 awards – and the challenge for The Radcliffe is to emulate that feat.

Zannah said: “The excitement doesn’t end there, the Best Pub in the East Midlands is up for grabs as we go up against the region’s finest at an awards ceremony in June.

“It’ll be tough competition because our region is blessed with so many outstanding village pubs. We are just delighted to be named with them all.”

The gastro-pub style of The Radcliffe has been a big winner with customers since a major refurbishment in 2019.

Their kitchen uses local ingredients such as Lincolnshire Poacher cheese, Radcliffe beef and sourdough from the Welbeck Bakehouse, while the menu as a whole blends traditional and modern ideas into a unique offering.

Zannah said: “We are so fortunate with our lovely setting, our large garden offers a place of peace and escapism where you can enjoy delicious food and drinks served by a super friendly, warm team.

The red-carpet final takes place at 30 Euston Square on Wednesday, June 22.
