Virus vaccine boosters a ‘must', says Newark and Bingham MP Robert Jenrick

Newark and Bingham MP Robert Jenrick says it is critical people come forward for their covid vaccine booster jabs.

Mr Jenrick said having the booster was a way of avoiding slipping back into further restrictions on liberty.

For that reason, he intervened to ensure that they can be administered locally to those eligible.

Covid-19 booster vaccinations are under way across Nottinghamshire and those eligible are being urged to book an appointment as soon as they are invited.

Those eligible for a booster dose of the vaccine include over 50s, people over 16 with a health condition that puts them at high risk of getting seriously ill from covid-19, and health and social care workers.

The public will only be able to book an appointment for a booster dose if it’s been at least six months (180 days) since their second dose of the vaccine.

Letters and texts are being sent from the NHS to remind those eligible to book their appointment on the NHS website or by calling 119.

Residents are encouraged to take up this invitation as soon as it arrives to maximise their protection over the winter.

“It is critical that we all come forward when we are called to get a vaccine booster,” said Mr Jenrick.

“No one wants to return to further restrictions and the best way to avoid this is to get a booster.

“Local residents have had to travel to Grantham to receive this boost.

“I have been in communication with the CCG to press that the local area needs more accessible access to get a booster, especially after the vaccination centre on the showground has now closed.

“They have now confirmed that a booster will be made available from several local sites.

“I have also asked a written question to the Secretary of State asking on what action the government is taking to increase booster jab uptake in Nottinghamshire, especially here in Newark and the surrounding area.”
